guineapig slave here from aberdeen , i help my daughter with her 3 sow guineas and have been searching various forums for gp info. we wondered if the girls (spot, patch and coco)wouldnt mind putting up with some male company(one more , thats it !).it would be a rescue piggy but he would have to be neutered but as you guys will know not much of them around . plenty down south, typical.neutering not so popular here , is it cost or other reasons ? just wondering. i thought of doing it myself(no not the op)but the poor lad would need to be kept apart for at least 6 weeks and we just dont have the room . dividing the hutch not enough he would do himself mischief. even then , they might noy get on !! what to do , any suggestions.it wouldnt be a disaster if we just stuck with the girls , i just thought give a boy a home . what do you guys think ?

Hya Muggins, I think the cost has a lot to do with it, but many vets arent very keen to do castrations on the "small furries". It is a lot more difficult, anaesthetic and operatively which is why it so expensive in comparison with the larger creatures! I havent come across many neutered boys ... very, very few, and you are right he would still need to be kept apart for at least 6 weeks. Even then, there is no guarantee that your group of happy girls would appreciate another interloper. Whilst I applaud you're wanting to rescue another g.p. personally I would say if they are a happy group of ladies, why fix it if its not broken.

ok just a thought . the sows patch(mum) ,coco(daughter) and spot (not related) get on fine , just minor squabbles i just thought a boar would make the herd more natural ,calm the bickering when they in season.but as you rightly say there are no guarantees that this will settle down to a happy clan they, might not even take to the poor boy ! anyway ,roll on fine weather , its good to watch them out in the run popcorning and munching grass. thanks for that.
