Big thanks to The girls from PAWSS!!! Nice one! Okay doky! Looking out cages suitable for Degu's. We know from experience that 'plastic' based 'Hagen cages', normally acceptable by rats...get eaten through by Degu's within hours Will have a good look at suitable accomodation ...well, later today It depends upon the present make up of the current groups... Will talk directly to them tomorrow. As for preferring males or females...no problem... as long as they have been correctly sexed Rest assured, we will take as many as we can manage! This is basically decided by the quality and quantity of the cages we have in storage. Fortunately, we have just erected a 20 ft shed, which we had anticipated housing our Gerbils, Guineas, and some of our more delicate rabbits over the winter..... Anybody out there with a spare cage suitable for 'Degu's'...similar to cages needed for Chinchillas...please feel free to contact us!!! As far as picking up from Belhelvie!! ...No problem! Big thank you to you Guys..sorry Gals!!! from PAWSS!!

Had a chat with Lynne Stewart this morning. Although, obviously over-run with them, she is not in a panic, and is prepared to motor up with a few later in the month. We have agreed to take in at least 30 Degu's, based on what suitable housing and space we have at the moment. We will make some effort to obtain more housing in the meantime. With a bit of luck this will result in us being able to take in even more than 30 by the time Lynne is ready to come up:) Meantime of course we will be looking for suitable people to re-home some....Hint! Hint!! So, if any of you readers are interested in taking on some Degu's, please feel free to get in touch. They are fairly specialised pets and are not suitable for everyone. Although Lynne assures me that they are all lovely It is fair to say that they have not been handled that much, not blinking well surprising with a hundred and fifty So please do not be offended if you don't make the 'short list' Please bear in mind that we will want to assess them before re-homing. i.e. general health checks, sex, ages, tooth problems, etc. etc. Not to mention finding out any 'naughty' ones who may be a bit 'bitey' At the end of the day they are all welcome to stay at The New Arc. P.S. Anybody out there with spare cages, who do not want a Degu Please get in touch. It would be appreciated

Thanks for popping by today and picking up our Chinchilla 'Old Girlie' Sorry I couldn't spend much time with you guys, but as you could see we had visitors who ended up re-homing 12 of our 'rescue hens' and 2 of our call ducks ........must admit that we hate to see the wee ducks go! Have a funny feeling that they may be back for some other of our animals in the near future Thanks for the donation of another cage, suitable for Degu's! In addition to 'freeing up' a cage that could house several degus, we have an additional cage.............This means that we can home even more than the thirty we agreed to take............ Woo Hoo!! Actually, I think its brilliant that we ( small independant rescue centres ) can all pull together and assist each other when situations like this arise! Thanks Guys/ Gals I believe that PAWSS are taking six this weekend! It does make me wonder though?........How many Degu's have the SSPCA offered to take? Mmmmm!

Just a quick Thank You to Shelly, from Bonnie Chinchillas! Shelly! Sorry I couldn't have been more polite, when you visited today You know Fit like Bonnie Chinchillas - Shelly & her long suffering Husband Have been kind enough to take on a 9 year old female Chinchilla from us. In addition they were kind enough to drop off a cage suitable for a small group of Degu's............Thanks Guys .....I Think Guess what! This means that in addition to the 30 odd Degu's we have agreed to take ....We now have 2 extra cages...... Somehow, I don't think that they will remain empty for long Lynne! If you are reading this? I think it safe to say that we might be able to take a couple more!....Unless, you have happened to find homes for the others in the meantime??? Still waiting for possible 'adopters'?

Following a conversation, earlier today, I would like to 'get some feedback' from anybody who has practical experience of keeping Degu's!
We have been told that there is a possibility, that we could keep a group of Degu's in an 'outside' environment???
Even to the point, where they enjoyed buurowing in the snow?
i.e. We are in the process of installing a variety of 'Aviary' style of housing.
We ask that anyone, with experience of Degu's get in touch and give us the benefit of their personal experience?

I certainly have a friend who keeps half a dozen Degu's outside. They have a cage to hide in but have a large outside area that they run around & dig tunnels in. They are out all year round, the cage is well protected from draughts but they certainly seem to manage to play out in all weathers with no ill effects (although they don't seem to like the rain much!!). Hope this helps

Hello All I really would like to rehome some of these Degus for you. I have been looking to rehome Degus for ages now, unfortunately glasgow is to far from me as i am in Northumberland. Does anyone know where i can find Degus that need rehoming closer to me? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi! Spoke to Lynne today Just as well as she appears to have lost my number....I know how that feels I do it all the time She is planning to come up on Wednesday next week with her first batch of Degu's. Not sure of ages or sexes, but we will take as many as we can. They can be very engaging pets and hopefully we can find some good homes for at least some of them. Naturally, we will spend some time with them to assess their suitability first.......so don't all come running... ( I wish ) We will also be making sure that they are sexed properly and split into suitable groups Hopefully we will get it right, but it would be likely that we will only be prepared to re-home the boys to start with.......Just in case, the girls have had any recent contact with a - sometimes difficult to sex - boy.

We have just taken delivery of 3 batches of Degus! We have 2 groups of boys who seem to get on with each other - Lynne says -...we will see Another group of 7 Girls came too....One looks very fat! Oh! Oh! She cannot guarentee they are not pregnant! In anticipation of a possible population increase, or any fights....we do happen to have a couple of extra cages ready To be fair, although they have not been handled often, they seem fairly calm, and we are hopeful that they can be available for re-homing fairly soon. Any interested parties.....you know who to contact!! Keith

Well done Keith,
I look forward to seeing these guys at the weekend as I have never seen a degu except by looking them up on a website.
Lets hope its only one girl that might be pregnant.
How many has the lady in Glasgow managed to rehome or pass on to other centres as I know PAWSS took a couple?

Hi! I found out about these degus via the Degutopia distro list. I'm located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and wish I could help with the rehoming activities. I'll keep all 150 of these little ones in my thoughts though, that they find forever loving homes. I have been keeping degus for eight years and have enjoyed every minute of it! Kim
