Hello, we have a Crows nest on the roof of our house which has Systematically been emptied by gulls (despite the crow parents best efforts), during the last raid about 4 weeks ago, the gull dropped a chick into our Garden as the parents attacked it, as it turns out this was the last surviving chick as we have seen no evidence of any others since. Not wanting to jeopardise any chance of the parents looking after the chick we left it where it was for half a day, the parents never came close. I didn’t want to see it die on my lawn so I popped out to check on it and gave it some cat food which it loved and continues to enjoy. There are a lot of cats in our area so I’ve been keeping it in a rabbit hutch overnight (its outside from 06:30 till 22:00). It is now attempting to fly, and doing not too badly, hopefully fully airborne soon, I'm guessing its age at about 6-8 weeks). It does have a lifeless claw/toe which I’m guessing was injured during its fall. My question is what is the likelihood of it leaving us, it’s been great having it as a visitor and we’ve been happy to look after it but I’m not sure we can deal with a pet crow, any thoughts? Once it can fly under full control would it be advisable to take it to a nearby wood and release it there? I'd be grateful for any advice. Thanks.
